The group during one of their recent outreaches. At a time when many corporates are saving for the eventful December holiday, a group of corporates are using their disposable income for a good cause. Employees of corporate institutions such as UIRIU, Kyambogo University, among others, spearheaded by accountant, Damali Nakirya have teamed up to fight the rampant teenage pregnancies. To do this, they have lined up a series of outreach campaigns across the country where they will sensitise communities, parents and teachers alike on top of donating essentials such as sanitary pads, scholastic materials such as books, pens and pencils

USAID agricultural project creates jobs, increases exports

A United States Agency for International Development (USAID) agricultural project that was started in Uganda in 2013, has created over 4,000 jobs and increased export volumes. Dubbed ‘Feed the Future Uganda Commodity Production and Marketing Activity’, the project has since March 2013, worked to increase the production and marketing of key agricultural commodities. USAID has been promoting the project together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries in a bid to roll out the Village Agent Model to complement the government’s agricultural extension system

The Norwegian Ambassador to Uganda Suzan Eckey quoting a ministry of finance report said that the average Ugandans can only afford to spend 18,000 shillings on electricity, and wondered how such a Ugandan is expected to spend 400,000 shillings on getting a connection, and 700 shillings per unit. The problems of power shortage generated the impetus to invest in more power generation but this, in turn, has brought with it another challenge of distribution exposing a critical part of the country's planning
