The Secretary to the Treasury, Keith Muhakanizi says dwindling productivity of the country’s fast growing population will adversely impact the target for middle income status as envisaged by government over the next 3 years. Muhakanizi also disclosed that in the current tough economic times, there is as serious strain on resources and facilities across the country due to the high population. Uganda is reported to have a 3% year on end population growth rate, accelerated by social and cultural norms, delivering arguably one among the youngest population in the world today. RITAH NAKALEMA, WAKISO MIDWIFE BATTLES LUNG CANCER: NEEDS 42 MILLION FOR TREATMENT

Ritah Nakalema Kamoga a resident of Kakindu-Kawuku in Entebbe wakiso district is looking for 42 million shillings to save her life. Nakalema a midwife at Kitala Health center II in Wakiso is battling cancer that left her right leg cut off and now the disease has reached the lungs causing difficulties in breathing. The drugs have been cited in Kampala Pharmacies but she cannot afford the 11 days dose worth 7 million shillings compared to her 480,000 monthly stipend. She is required to be on medication for 6 months which is about 42M/= that she needs. She appeals for help to save her life

Farmers in Teso sub region have been encouraged to engage in the growing of cotton as an economic activity. The call was made by Peter Takan the plant pathologist of National Semi Arid Resource Research Institute (NaSSARI) in Serere during President Yoweri Museveni’s visit on Sunday. Takan said cotton is one of the bestselling cash crops that can generate income amongst farmers in Uganda due to the market demand

Makerere university lecturers say they will again go on a sit-down strike if Dr. Abel Rwendeire’s visiting committee report findings on their plight is not released soon. The lecturers whose prolonged sit down strike last year prompted president museveni to appoint a committee to investigate issues at the Universityare bitter that they have remained in the same pain of low pay and lack incentives which would have been addressed by the report recommendations. Now that Rwendeire passed on before findings his report were made public, the chairman MUASA Dr Muhammad Kiggundu wants the university council to immediately locate the report wherever it is or else they strike without notice

Bobi Wine performing at a concert recently. Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi commonly known as Bobi Wine has been banned from performing at music concerts pending investigations. Responding to music show promoter, Balunywa Promotions Ltd, Kampala Metropolitan Police chief, Fred Mwesigwa declined to grant permission for a show at Colline Hotel in Mukono. “Unfortunately we are not granting permission for the show because during the previous show at One Love Beach Busabala, he uttered words that are incitful to the public and he is now under investigations,” Mwesigwa said

Hearing of the cyber harassment case against Senior Makerere University Researcher Dr. Stella Nyanzi has not taken off today at Buganda road court due to the ongoing Prosecutors’ strike. Chief Magistrate James Eremye was supposed to receive a response from Resident State Attorney, Jonathan Muwaganya on the position of the Director of Public Prosecutions on whether to proceed and try Dr. Stella Nyanzi, for offensive communication against the Person of the President. When the matter last came up on 21st July this year, Muwaganya, wanted the Magistrate to wait for the outcome of a petition Dr. Stella Nyanzi’s filed in the constitutional court challenging the Mental Treatment Act, saying it had a direct bearing on the pending criminal case
